At only 6 months, Caleb took his first cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment of the Seas. This was our first mommy and me cruise! I was very comfortable with taking a cruise with my son alone because I had been on many cruises prior and felt very safe on cruises. I always fly down the day before a cruise so that I don’t feel rushed and overwhelmed so this trip was no different. We stayed at the Intercontinental Miami. I had arranged for private transportation to pick us up from the airport. This made things so much easier because someone was at the baggage claim area to pick up our luggage and load it in the vehicle. Upon arrival at the hotel, we had assistance with our luggage to the room and once we left the hotel we had the same assistance. You have to pay a little more for this convenience but sometimes you have to pay for convenience to make things easier.
The cruise was 3-nights to the Bahamas and left from the Port of Miami. Due to Caleb being so young, I brought everything I needed on board, and I mean everything! He was still drinking formula so I had to bring all of that and his sterilizer and milk warmer, but it wasn’t too bad. Check-in was a breeze. We stayed in a Grand Suite stateroom, so that gave us access to priority check-in lines. I prefer staying in at least a junior suite and above because it has a bathtub, which is great for kids! One of the main features I like about cruising with children is the child care onboard the ship. It’s called Adventure Ocean and there are programs available for children from age 6 months. This gives parents a chance to get some alone time and kids can go there to have fun because there are plenty of fun activities for kids to play with. There is a small fee at Adventure Ocean. It ranges from $6-$8 an hour.
This cruise went to Nassau, Bahamas, Caleb’s first country! Once we arrived we explored the area near the ship and took a ride over to the famous Atlantis hotel. There are taxis everywhere at the port and for a small fee of less than $10, you can get a ride over to the hotel. Don’t worry, there are plenty of taxis there at the hotel to take you back to the port. Once at the hotel, I strolled Caleb around to catch a few sights. On the outside of the hotel there are cool flying horses statues over a water fountain. There are other activities at the hotel that are better suitable for older kids.
One of the things I love about cruises is getting dressed for dinner at night. It was so fun getting Caleb dressed in suits at night for dinner. Getting dressed up is not a requirement but I loved doing it and creating memories with my son. Once at dinner, I was provided a high chair for Caleb and it was just the two of us at the table. You have an option of getting a larger table to mingle with the other guest but I prefer a small more private table at dinner. It’s all about your preference.
Overall, the trip was awesome! This was the first of many cruises of us together. Royal Caribbean is my favorite and they did not disappoint on our first cruise together. I highly recommend cruising with children!
